"The student lounge is okay, but there isn't enough room, and it fills up quickly," Josh said. "There also aren't many places for commuters."

According to Josh, some students thought creating a pub on campus would be a possible solution to the issue; however, the creation of the pub did not garner enough support.

"The pub itself was too limited of an idea," Josh said. "The coffeehouse is open to more variation; for example, maybe there could be a pub night every month so that, instead of just serving alcohol, there is more to offer students."

Michelle Gautreau said that a bill for partial SGA funding will be presented in the fall, but that she and Josh also plan to write an alumni proposal asking for additional donations.

"I'm trying to get strong alumni support because there isn't a large alumni presence at UST," Josh said. "What I'm planning to do is to draw up a proposal for alumni, so that, once it's approved, they can donate money."

To show appreciation to the alumni donors, the coffeehouse will, according to Josh, have tables or plaques with the donors' name on it.

The coffeehouse will also serve as a possible venue for local artists and comedians, Josh said.

"Within the coffeehouse I want to have different things that can cater to different events," Josh said. "Like putting a stage for an open mic night or a projector for Guitar Hero or other video games."

Besides providing drink options, Michelle also plans to have sandwiches and other food items available to students.

"I want to provide another option besides Crooker or going off-campus for food," she said. "One thing we looked into doing is special offers throughout the day, like coffee and doughnuts in the morning."

The coffeehouse will target UST's residents and commuters alike. The main goal, according to Michelle, is to have a location on campus that students will want to go to, regardless of where they live.

"Hopefully, if it is an inviting place, students will feel comfortable going and hanging at," Michelle said.
