A recent letter posted by the Rev. Robert Barringer and UST's Basilian fathers on a faculty discussion web site states that they will not support a revised core curriculum which reduces the required hours of theology and philosophy courses.
This year's graduation commencement speaker, James T. Hackett, president and CEO of Anadarko Petroleum Corp., said he will talk to the graduating students about "informed courage," while senior liberal arts major and student speaker Derek Smith will share the story of his lengthy college journey with his fellow graduates on May 17.
A speakers policy committee, co-chaired by UST's Vice President of Academic Affairs John Hittinger and Faculty Senate Chair Rick Young, was appointed to create guidelines for non-political speakers invited to lecture on-campus after civil rights activist Dolores Huerta was "uninvited" from speaking in February.
